Still sick

Still fighting off this cold, and now the baby has it too. :( No fun! Neither of us is getting much sleep, and I'm starting to run out of cough drops and tissues.

I've got some great posts on the way, as soon as we get better. In the mean time, here are some cute pics:

I love those overalls on her!

Both pictures are from almost 3 weeks ago. I can't believe how much she has grown since then! I'll be posting some comparison shots showing how much she has grown soon.

Quick Milestone Check-in

I just couldn't wait to update you until baby and I are well enough to really spend some time putting together some posts. So, I'll get some pics and video soon, but...

She is about to crawl!!!

She can roll over any way she wants as fast as she decides to. She sits on her own for so long- basically until she decides she's done- and she can rock back and forth and reach for things without falling over. If you put her down on her back she can roll over and be up on all fours in seconds. The rocking-back-and-forth-while-on-all-fours milestone happened like the day after she figured out how to get up on all fours at all, and a couple days ago she started being able to scoot her knees forward. It's the arms that are really holding her up, but last night she picked up and moved her hand twice while on all fours! Aaaah! You can really see her concentrating hard. She is determined to be able to move her little body wherever she wants to go. (This weekend hubby and I are doing a baby-proofing and house-cleaning party...)

Also, her growing this week hasn't been so much about size (although she is bigger) as growing older. She is longer and leaner and her face has definitely matured. She has also definitely grown cognitively, and my happy-go-lucky little girl has become very thoughtful and serious about her world. She is still a cheerful baby with a great smile, but she is a thinker! And, of course, still a mover. It's funny to watch her get this super concentrated look on her face as she diligently kicks or wiggles or rocks over and over.

I promise to capture some of this on film (or um digital pixels) soon. After our colds improve a little.

(Sorry this got so long and rambly. I blame my cold for my lack of brain.)

Stay tuned...

So, I have an awful cold. No promises that I'll update my blog until I'm feeling better. Fingers crossed that baby won't catch it!

Look who's up on all fours!

She learned how to get up on all fours more than a week ago, and look how good she is getting! She was doing even better, but I didn't think to start filming until she'd been at it for a while, and she was getting tired by this point. Still, she's doing amazing!

Sliding with Grandpa

I'll be putting up a great big post about our trip soon, but in the mean time, here is one of my favorite shots:

Her first time ever on a slide, with the help of her great-grandpa.

Milestones! (But no pics)

Two BIG milestones today. She just got up on her hands and knees by herself for the first time (that I've seen)... but by the time I got the camera out it was over. She also finally figured out how to combine her rolling front-to-back and back-to-front skills in the same direction instead of back and forth, and rolled across the floor. This mama is going to have to keep both eyes on her now!

Selfie time!

Sorry I haven't done more catching up on here- had computer problems and baby had a rough couple days and then a HUGE growth spurt. I'll be posting pics of how much she grew, but in the mean time, here is a selfie. Enjoy.

Swimming

We tried to take baby swimming again today. (If you'd like to see pics and video of her first time in the water, click here). This time was slightly more successful- it was much warmer outside and there were lots of people at the pool. But I guess just two hot days were not enough to warm up all that water. The pool was COLD. Still, baby and her daddy braved the cold to play for a little bit.

We are thinking of signing her up for a baby swimming class this summer. It's this new thing where the instructors are certified in special baby swimming techniques and mommy gets in the pool with baby too. They teach the babies how to kick and turn themselves over and float on their backs so that if they ever fall in the pool they can keep themselves breathing until you retrieve them. They also teach them to like playing in the water! It's supposed to be really well done and lots of fun for babies- the water weightlessness lets them practice kicking and moving without the difficulty of holding their own weight.

Some of these baby swimmers are pretty amazing. Here is a cute example of a 6-month old:

And here is a pretty amazing video that’s got some great info about the “ISR” baby swimming method:

What do you think about this whole baby swimming thing? Comment and let me know!

Playing

Look who is getting better and better at pushing up on her arms!

Holding her toes

Have I mentioned that I think it is ADORABLE when she holds her toes? Of course, she has adorable toes!

Enjoy this short video of her waking up. Love her!

Milestone!

New milestone everyone! Last night, baby rolled from back to front like a pro! (She's done it a couple times by accident, but now she's got it down!) Of course, that means next step is putting that together with her front to back skills and then her Mommy will have to watch her a lot more closely...

Working out the Bugs

I know I promised some people some specific videos would be up today... but I'm working out a few bugs with the video posting. They'll be up soon!

Here is a cute picture in the mean time to keep y'all happy:

Prayers for Christy

Remember my absolutely amazing midwife, Christy? Well, her baby is due any time now! Fingers crossed it happens soon!

Remember what happened to Papa Bear?

My mom can tell you a funny story about being a tired new mommy and finding herself telling little-me a whole new version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Well, here's my tired-mommy version of a popular lullaby, courtesy of another late night of one little girl fighting off sleep:

Hush little baby don't you cry
Mama's gonna sing you a lullaby
It won't be very creative
But I think you'll prob'ly live
And if I make up some new words
We won't have-to-hear-about-that mocking bird
Cuz who would give a baby that
Especially one who has a cat

Anyway, it kept going for an embarrassingly long time. But it was either that or start getting really frustrated about being up for way too long in the middle of the night- again.

I love that little girl!

Quick thought

For some reason today baby has been laughing every time she sees the cat. It's adorable!

Also, one of my favorite new things she is doing this week is reaching up to touch my face, especially when I'm talking to her, especially when we are having a quiet moment of staring lovingly into eachother's eyes, especially when she smiles that special smile while she explores my face with her perfect little hand. *sigh* It melts my heart!

...oops. She just made me a stinky little present. Gotta go!

Like Mother...

One of the running jokes in my family is how I've always had a talent for being able to laugh and cry at the same time. Hubby actually didn't think we were serious until he witnessed it himself! Well, now it seems our daughter has inherited my talent. There have been several times that we've seen her mix laughing or smiling with crying or pouting- very impressive and adorable, if I do say so myself. This morning was extra funny, though. She had been FIGHTING going down for a nap for a while, and I finally just put her in the middle of my bed while I stood next to the bed and finally got to brush my hair and such. Well, in true tired mommy fashion, I started imitating her complaining cries, and she started laughing after each time I copied her- while continuing to cry! After a while she would let out a cry and then stop and wait for me to copy her, give a little whimpering laugh, and then cry some more. My goofy girl!

There is a hummingbird that makes a daily practice of teasing my cat! We have a big tree right outside the window, and every day Lexi, our cat, sits on the sill looking out. Well, this week I've noticed what looks like the same hummingbird coming by every day. The bird will sit in the tree then come flying at the window and hover by Lexi's face for a bit then return to the tree. It drives Lexi nuts! I tried to get a picture, but that little bird was fast! If I get one, I'll add it!

First time eating- and she loved it!

100 Day Book of Mormon Challenge- Week 1

Today our Relief Society began a 100 day Book of Mormon reading challenge. I'll be posting the weekly charts here to share with you in case you want to join in! I'm also hoping that sharing them will keep me on track and accountable as I try to remember to read.

The challenge begins tomorrow and goes through the end of August. If you decide to join me, I would love to hear from you about your experiences during this challenge, too!

WAY TOO CUTE

So, I've had a request for a laugh on camera. I'm working on it- it's harder than you'd think. In the mean time, enjoy this ridiculously adorable video of her telling me a story.

Let me know in the comments: do you think she was trying to say "Mama" or was that just my wishful thinking? Also, have you ever heard a more beautiful sound?!

First time swimming!

Today we got baby all dressed up in her new swimsuit and took her swimming! Or, at least we tried to. Despite the new warm weather, I guess the pool wasn't totally ready yet. The pool water was FREEZING, and nobody else was crazy enough to be there. Luckily, the hot tub was not in use either and the water was just barely cool (and not very full) so baby and daddy jumped in and splashed around for a while. At first she wasn't quite sure about it, but then she started really having fun!

Today's cuteness fix

Talking up a storm...

Laugh!

I'm not going to be a trouble-maker, honest...
