We tried to take baby swimming again today. (If you'd like to see pics and video of her first time in the water, click here). This time was slightly more successful- it was much warmer outside and there were lots of people at the pool. But I guess just two hot days were not enough to warm up all that water. The pool was COLD. Still, baby and her daddy braved the cold to play for a little bit.
We are thinking of signing her up for a baby swimming class this summer. It's this new thing where the instructors are certified in special baby swimming techniques and mommy gets in the pool with baby too. They teach the babies how to kick and turn themselves over and float on their backs so that if they ever fall in the pool they can keep themselves breathing until you retrieve them. They also teach them to like playing in the water! It's supposed to be really well done and lots of fun for babies- the water weightlessness lets them practice kicking and moving without the difficulty of holding their own weight.
Some of these baby swimmers are pretty amazing. Here is a cute example of a 6-month old:
And here is a pretty amazing video that’s got some great info about the “ISR” baby swimming method:
What do you think about this whole baby swimming thing? Comment and let me know!
